Enter marks and follow marks progress
Enter each student's marks for one subject in one exam, import them from a file, and see which classes and teachers still have marks to enter.
Marks are entered one subject, in one class, for one exam at a time. Subject teachers usually do this in the teacher portal (see the Teacher manual); office staff can do the same here.
Before you start
- The exam exists and the class is one of its classes (see Create an exam).
- The class has a grading scheme with its components, such as CA out of 30 and Exam out of 70 (see Grading schemes). Without one you see "This class has no grading scheme configured yet. Set one up first."
Enter the marks
-
Open Exams → Enter Marks.

-
Choose the class, then the subject, then the exam. Each step unlocks the next ("Select a class to get started", "Select a subject to continue", "Select an exam to enter marks").
-
A table lists every student. There is one column for each component of the grading scheme, with its maximum, for example CA / 30 and Exam / 70. Type each student's mark. The field will not accept more than the maximum. Decimals are allowed (for example 17.5).
-
The Grade column updates as you type, using the class's grading scheme.
-
Click Save Marks. You see "Marks saved".
Students who did not sit the paper
Beside a student you can set their Status:
| Status | Shown as | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Marked | the marks | The normal case. |
| Absent | ABS | The student did not come. No marks are counted. |
| Exempt | N/A | The student is excused from the paper. |
Students marked Absent or Exempt have their mark boxes switched off. They get no total, percentage or grade, so they are left out of averages.
Import marks from a file
Click Download template to get a CSV with your class list and the right columns. Fill it in, then click Import from CSV. The table is filled with the marks and you see "Marks filled in for 30 student(s)" with any problems, such as marks over the maximum. Nothing is saved until you click Save Marks, so check the table first.
After saving
- Results and ranking update (see Results and exam reports).
- Every save is recorded in the Audit Log ("Marks saved: Standard 5 · Mathematics · Term 1 Mid-term (30 students)").
- Saving again simply changes the marks, as long as the exam is not locked.
Follow marks progress
Exams → Marks Progress shows how much of the marks entry is done for an exam.

- Choose the Exam.
- You see a grid of classes and subjects, with how many results are entered against how many are expected, and a summary such as "412 of 620 results entered · 5 of 14 classes complete".
- Click the reminder icon beside a subject to remind that subject's teacher ("Remind the teacher of Mathematics in Standard 5?"), or Remind all pending teachers to remind everyone who is behind. You see "Reminder sent to 6 teacher(s)".
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| This exam is locked | The exam's status is Completed or Published, so marks cannot change. An administrator can set it back to Active (Exams → Exams → Edit). |
| This class has no grading scheme configured yet | Give the class a grading scheme in Academic Management → Classrooms → Edit. |
| A subject is missing | It is not attached to that class. |
| A mark is refused | It is above the component's maximum. |
| Nobody to remind | No teacher has marks outstanding, or the subject has no teacher assigned. |
